Blog Assignment 1

The course readings for this module suggest that it is time for a new evolution in distance learning. It is time to bring it to the next level. I think that we see that happening in our courses now. This is the first time that I have been apart of an online course that offers video resources integrated into the modules. It is also taking the interaction to another level. I believe that the distance learning will have to evolve in order to meet the needs of the new generation. This next generation of learners are used to online interaction, but it is the environment that content is presented and how it is presented that I think will need to be changed.

  1. You are correct in noting that the young are more adept at technology than the older generations. They can certainly execute actions more efficiently; the keystrokes and commands are second-nature to them. But, I am not completely convinced that they use the technology to effectively advance knowledge and generate a deeper understanding. They communicate efficiently, they multi-task to a greater degree, they seamlessly integrate technology into daily activities, but when asked to pursue knowledge using those same tools, you often encounter resistance, frustration, and discomfort. Perhaps the approach and motivation must, indeed, change if online learning is to be a substantive cause.

  2. i totally agree. I am young, but the information is not presented in a way that a learner and grasp and understand on their own. Educators are already expecting us to know information that is basically brand new to us. I think e-learning is goin gto have to adapt to meet the needs of all learners, differentiated instruction.

  3. This is new and exciting yet scary. I am ready to accept and learn change but I find that I need to be guided first then set free in order to feel comfortable able learning technology. Now I am getting a better understanding of what my students are being faced with. Developing new skills is very interesting and this new experience of group work is has brought new meaning to team and work.
